Silas was one of eleven children of Absalom Oldham and Margaret Taylor. Absalom and Margaret were married on June 17, 1853, in Jennings County, Indiana. Absalom was born November 5, 1821, in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Margaret was born January 31, 1831. Absalom may have had another wife, Sarah Jane Bailey. Not 100% sure of that. Absalom's father was also Absalom. The elder Absalom was born in Cecil County, Maryland on November 27, 1789. He was married at least three times and had children by two of his wives. He died April 7, 1866, in either Jennings, Decatur or Ripley County and is buried at Union Flat Rock Baptist cemetery in Ripley County, Indiana. He was a veteran of the War of 1812. His first wife was Sarah Ann Tucker Kelly, a widow, and they had ten children. Sarah Ann Tucker Kelly Oldham died June 19, 1832. Absalom married Margaret Tucker, also a widow and sister-in-law to his first wife, within a month of his first wife's death on July 16, 1832. They had one child and this child was Robert. An interesting story with this family - Robert's older half sister on his father's side, Mary Oldham, married Robert's older half brother on his mother's side, William Tucker. William and Mary had 9 children and many of their descendants are still in Indiana.
Sarah Ann Parcher died in 1832. She married Absalom Oldham.
