Burial was at the Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction.Herbert was born the sixth child of Fred and Anna Eichhorn Rehmke in rural Cedar County on August 30, 1931, along with his twin, Herold. He attended grade school in Stanwood and graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1949. Herbert married Donna J. Von Muenster on February 1, 1951 in Clarence. Herbert farmed near Oxford Junction his entire life. He was a Director and President of the Wheatland Mutual Insurance Association for 33 years. He was a member of the Jones County Historical Society, where he served as President and was active with the Jones County Central Committee for the Republican Party. Herbert was active in his church, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Oxford Junction, where he served on the church council, and taught Sunday school and confirmation classes for many years. Herbert truly believed that the place for the Lord's People on the Lord's Day was in the Lord's House. He was an avid reader and writer, enjoyed history, and loved dancing. He was most proud of his family.Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Donna; a daughter, Catherine Knipp and her husband, Daryl of Fremont, OH; a son, Bruce Rehmke, and his wife, Carleen, of Peosta; a daughter Denise Rehmke of Coralville; a daughter Annette Rehmke and her husband, Jeffery Hickey, of Evanston, IL. six granddaughters, Mikenzie (Deniz) Sari, Megan Steffens, Erin Rehmke, Alison Rehmke, Maureen Hickey and Gwendolyn Hickey; a grandson, Greg Rehmke; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Meyer; two brothers, Robert (Elaine) Rehmke of West Liberty and Herold (Betty) Rehmke of Oxford Junction; two sisters, Betty (Robert) Thumma of Tipton and Rosetta Thumma of Stanwood; a sister-in-law, Mabel Rehmke of Durant; and many nieces and nephews. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Louella; and his brother, Louis. Burial was at the Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction.Herbert was born the sixth child of Fred and Anna Eichhorn Rehmke in rural Cedar County on August 30, 1931, along with his twin, Herold. He attended grade school in Stanwood and graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1949. Herbert married Donna J. Von Muenster on February 1, 1951 in Clarence. Herbert farmed near Oxford Junction his entire life. He was a Director and President of the Wheatland Mutual Insurance Association for 33 years. He was a member of the Jones County Historical Society, where he served as President and was active with the Jones County Central Committee for the Republican Party. Herbert was active in his church, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Oxford Junction, where he served on the church council, and taught Sunday school and confirmation classes for many years. Herbert truly believed that the place for the Lord's People on the Lord's Day was in the Lord's House. He was an avid reader and writer, enjoyed history, and loved dancing. He was most proud of his family.Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Donna; a daughter, Catherine Knipp and her husband, Daryl of Fremont, OH; a son, Bruce Rehmke, and his wife, Carleen, of Peosta; a daughter Denise Rehmke of Coralville; a daughter Annette Rehmke and her husband, Jeffery Hickey, of Evanston, IL. six granddaughters, Mikenzie (Deniz) Sari, Megan Steffens, Erin Rehmke, Alison Rehmke, Maureen Hickey and Gwendolyn Hickey; a grandson, Greg Rehmke; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Meyer; two brothers, Robert (Elaine) Rehmke of West Liberty and Herold (Betty) Rehmke of Oxford Junction; two sisters, Betty (Robert) Thumma of Tipton and Rosetta Thumma of Stanwood; a sister-in-law, Mabel Rehmke of Durant; and many nieces and nephews. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Louella; and his brother, Louis.
