Gary, the son of the late LaVernon "Shadow" Mineart and the late Dixie (Irons) Mineart, was born on Oct. 18, 1950, in Mason City. He attended Mason City community schools and graduated in 1969. After he graduated, he served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973. He was honorably discharged in 1973 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Gary worked for VanHorn Auto Salvage in Mason City for 30 years before retiring in 2001. He also was very committed to the Stardust Lanes running the karaoke machine and tending bar. A few of the things Gary cherished were the Green Bay Packers, his grandchildren, his family and friends, bowling, game shows, crossword puzzles, automobiles, and playing cards.
He was married to Rebecca Nicholson on March 23, 1973, and they were blessed with two children, Nicole and Nathan. Gary was an avid sports fan but his favorite athletes were his children who were active in sports in high school. Gary will always be remembered as the "Right Field Guy" who would always be standing in the right field during softball and baseball games. Gary will sadly be missed by his children, Nicole (Jason) Kesten, of Mason City, and Nathan (Heather) Mineart, of Coralville; his six grandchildren, Jayden, Justin, Tobias, and Isaiah, of Mason City and Cade and Rhys, of Coralville; siblings, Nancy Roberts (Gene), Mark Mineart, Mike Mineart (Holly), Susan VanHorn (Terry), Alvin Mineart (Jennifer), Gary Darling (Jill), Jean Hauan (Mike), Vicki Richardson, and Susan Martin (Mike) and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, LaVernon "Shadow" Mineart; his mother, Dixie (Irons) Mineart; and special family friends Kip Malone and Marlys and Wilmer Adrian.
