Mrs. Willis P. (Laura E.) Harris, 82, died Monday April 21, 1986 at a Mason City hospital.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church Mason City, Iowa.The Rev. Charles Q. Wallace will officiate, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Harris was born Jan. 7, 1904, at Green City, Mo., to Harrison and Mary Rosella (Sears) Bailey. She came to Mason City with her family at an early age, and attended Mason City schools.She married Willis P. Harris on Oct. 9, 1923, at Mason City. She attended and gradrated Hamilton Business College here in 1927. She served as a medical secretary for Dr. C.E. Chenoweth for a number of years. During WW II she assisted her husband in the operation of the Harris DX Service Station at 121 S. Washington, Mason City, Iowa.She was a longime member of First United Methodist Church, and was a member and seved as treasurer of the WSG (We Serve God) Guild. She served on the administrative board of First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from noon Thursday until 9 a.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home Mason City. CLARENCE ALBERT MILLIS NORTHWOOD - Clarence Albert Millis, 95, of Northwood, died Monday (July 8, 2002) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. He has been a resident of the Northwood Retirement Home since February of 2002. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Northwood, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. Conner Colonial Chapel in Northwood is in charge of arrangements. Clarence was born May 30, 1907, to Harry Frances Millis and Laura Cordella Ferguson in Monatau County, Mo. In 1918 they moved to area near Fort Dodge. In 1922 they moved to Worth County. Clarence attended country school through the eighth grade. On Dec. 14, 1933, Clarence married Ruth Elizabeth Ruffridge in Mason City. They made their home with his parents near Bolan, helping on the farm until 1944 when they moved to Mitchell County, Iowa, to a truck farm owned by C.C. Hansen. He was a foreman there for 30 years. In 1972 Clarence and Ruth moved to an acreage north of Mona, Iowa. He continued to raise vegetables for farmers market. Sometime in the late 1980s or early '90s he retired. He and Ruth moved to Northwood and lived in the Viking Manor South until February of 2002. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Millis, of Northwood; two daughters, Shirley Schoppers, of Harmony, Minn. and Sherry Jacobsen, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Sandra Fahlberg and her husband, John, of Beresford, S.D., Larry Schoppers and his wife, Lorry, of Chester, Cheryl Hansen and her husband, Dan, of Sheldon, Steve Schoppers and his wife, Barb, of Alden, Minn., Eric Halvorson, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Lori Bruner and her husband, Terry, of Mandan, N.D., Jayna Jacobsen, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. and Sara Jacobsen, of St. Paul, Minn.; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pearl Plath and her husband Cecil, of Bolan.
