FRANKIE PHEARMAN OSAGE Frankie Phearman, 93, of Osage, died Monday (Dec. 9, 2002) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Frankie was born on Oct. 27, 1909, in Marion County, the daughter of Grover and Jessie (McCoy) Carter. She graduated from Runnells High School in Runnells, Iowa, in 1927. Frankie then received her teaching degree from Simpson College in 1932.
She was united in marriage to Roy Phearman on Aug. 20, 1932, at the home of her grandparents in Marion County who raised her after the age of eight.
Frankie started teaching in rural country schools in Iowa, then taught in Rudd, and retired from Osage Community Schools where she taught for several years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Osage, Rebekah's, Wa-Tan-Ye, Mitchell County Hospital Auxiliary, Floyd County Retired Teachers, and U.C.T. in Mason City.
Frankie's family was very important to her and especially her grandchildren. She also liked tatting, quilting, and sewing. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Osage, with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery in Osage. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Visitation will continue one hour before services Thursday at the church.

C. Edith Murray Oldham was born Oct. 2, 1901, at Dougherty, the daughter of James and Ellen C. Gossman Murray. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School in 1920, and on Sept. 15, 1924, she and Francis L. Oldham were married at Charles City.
_ She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, the 3rd Order of Carmelites, the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, was a Gold Star Mothe and a Navy Mother and was a member of the Senior Citizens and the American Association of Catholic Women. She loved her family and friends. Her church played an important role in her life.
Living family members include five sons and their wives, Mike and Darlene of Dubuque, Jack and Barb of Mason City, Alan and Marion of Billings, Mont., Donald "Rick" and Peggy of Cedar Rapids and Paul and Janet of Algona; a daughter-in-law, Edie Oldham-Schon of Dubuque; and three daughters, Sister Francesca of Decorah, Kathy and her husband, Larry Phearman, of Mason City, and Imelda and her husband, Charles Housh, of Monee, Ill. There are 36 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, in 1972; two sons, James and Joe; a daughter, Sister Mary Ellen; a brother; and two sisters.

CEDAR RAPIDS - Funeral services for Sister Mary Ellen Oldham (formerly Sister Mary Edith), 64, were Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Chapel of Mercy, Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids.
She died on Thursday, Dec. 14 at Queen of Angels Health Center, Sacred Heart Convent, Cedar Rapids as a result of lymphoma. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Sister Mary Ellen was born June 19, 1931, in Charles City, Iowa to Francis and Edith Oldham. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on Aug. 1, 1949, and made her profession of perpetual vows on Feb. 2, 1955.
She taught at schools in Waterloo, Ames, Cedar Rapids (including Regis High School and Mt. Mercy College), and DeWitt, Iowa; and St. Paul, Minn. She served as director of religious education at parishes in Edina, Minn. and Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She also served as chaplain in pastoral care departments in Oelwein and Clinton, Iowa; Springfield, Mo.; and Fort Scott, Kan.
Sister Mary Ellen is survived by her mother, Edith Oldham of Nora Springs; three sisters, Sister Francisca Oldham of Decorah, Catherine Phearman of Mason City, and Imelda Housh of Monee, Ill.; and five brothers, Jack Oldham of Mason City, Alan Oldham of Billings, Mont, Michael Oldham of Dubuque, Rick Oldham of Cedar Rapids, and Paul Oldham of Algona.

Sister Francesca Oldham, RSM, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, at Chapel of Mercy, Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Msgr. Karl L. Glovik. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel of Mercy from 2 to 9 p.m., Friday, where a wake service will begin at 7 p.m., and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Arrangements are with Stewart Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Born in Charles City, she was the daughter of Francis and Edith Murray Oldham. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Jim, Jack, Joe, Mike and Rick; and one sister, Sister Mary Ellen Oldham, RSM. In addition to her Sisters of Mercy, Sister Francesca is survived by two brothers, Alan (Marian), Billings, MT, and Paul (Janet), Algona; two sisters, Cathy (Larry) Phearman, Mason City, and Imelda (Chuck) Housh, Monee, Ill.; four sisters-in-law, Barb (Jack), Jacksonville, Fla.; Edith (Joe) and Darlene (Mike), both of Dubuque; Peg (Rick), Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Sister entered the Cedar Rapids Community of the Sisters of Mercy August 1, 1951, and made her final profession of vows February 2, 1957. She received her BA from Mount Mercy College and her MA from St. Xavier College, Chicago, both in education.
From 1954 to 1964, Sister Francesca taught grades 3-6 at the following Eastern Iowa schools: St. Matthew, St. Wenceslaus, and Immaculate Conception, all in Cedar Rapids; St. Patrick, Fairfax; St. John, Clarion; and St. Benedict, Decorah. For the next 34 years, she taught junior high and high school level students at Immaculate Conception, Elma; Columbus, Waterloo; and Regis, All Saints and Immaculate Conception, all in Cedar Rapids, concluding her ministry in education as head teacher and principal at St. Benedict in Decorah. From 1970 to 1978, in addition to teaching, Sister Francesca also served as the director of Sister Formation for the Regional Community.
At the time of her death, Sister was serving as pastoral associate at Immaculate Conception and St. Wenceslaus in Cedar Rapids, a ministry she had served since 1998.
All who knew her will miss Sister Francesca's frequent and brilliant smile. She will be especially remembered for her loving patience with her students and the comforting kindness she brought to the homebound parishioners she visited regularly.
