Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood with Rev. Thomas Hagen officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Emmons, MN.
Clarence Orlando Sorbo was born on July 28, 1910 to Gustav & Gena (Haugerud) Sorbo on a farm near Rice Lake in Winnebago County, IA. He was baptized in the basement of the Silver Lake Lutheran Church shortly before the church building was relocated from the cemetery to the current location. In the spring of 1918, His family moved from the Rice Lake area to a farm along the north shore of Silver Lake in Worth County. He was confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in 1925.
Clarence was united in marriage to Irene Bendickson on June 10, 1934 in Northwood, IA. They lived on the Silver Lake farm raising a family, crops, livestock, chickens and for several years delivered eggs to homes and businesses in the surrounding area. In 2001 they moved to an apartment in Lake Mills and in September of 2004 Clarence entered Lake Mills Care Center, Lake Mills, IA. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and always had a good story to tell. He played banjo and guitar, went fishing when he could, and listened to the Twins baseball games whenever possible.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood, IA, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday evening at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will take place after a lunch and fellowship at 2:30 PM Thursday afternoon at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Emmons, MN.
Irene was born January 16, 1914, in Silver Lake Township, Worth County, IA, the daughter of Hans Martin and Serena Ovidia (Thompson) Bendickson. She was baptized at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in March of 1914. She was confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in June of 1928.
Her family moved to Nunda Township, in Freeborn county, MN, in 1927, then to Mansfield Township in 1929. She attended rural schools in both Worth County, IA and Freeborn County, MN.
On June 10, 1934, Irene was married to Clarence O. Sorbo in Northwood, IA at a former pastor’s home instead of at Silver Lake Church so they could be married in the Norwegian language. They farmed with his parents in Silver Lake Township until 1949 when they purchased the family farm. Clarence and Irene farmed and raised their family on the north shore of Silver Lake until they moved to Lake Mills in 2001. Irene entered Lake Mills Care Center on December 11, 2007.
Joys of Irene’s life were spending time with her family, working in her garden growing flowers and vegetables, gathering and sharing family history, and visiting with friends and neighbors. She was active in her church circle as long as she was able.

Viola Henrietta Bailey was born on July 11, 1908, in Rock Falls, the daughter of John and Caroline (Wolert) Christiansen. She attended and received her education in the Rock Falls Community Schools, graduating from Rock Falls High School. She was united in marriage to Gail Otto Bailey on April 11, 1929, in Mason City. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1977. After their marriage, they farmed in the Mason City, Nora Springs and Plymouth areas. Viola also worked as a sales clerk for Newberry 5 & Dime, Montgomery Ward, and also worked as a housekeeper for Mercy Hospital, all in Mason City. She enjoyed crocheting, afghans, flowers, baking, cooking, and playing cards and games with her neighbors, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and friends. Viola loved her church and was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs, and enjoyed quilting with her church group. Left to cherish her memory are her children:

She was very involved at the Senior Citizen Center and never missed a day.Pearl had a great sense of humor and a golden heart. She enjoyed baby-sitting for her grandchildren and other friends. Pearl was contunuoulsy talking on the phone with friends and family. Pearl would attend dances to watch people and visit with her friends. Ruffridge was born on July 26, 1917, in rural Grafton, the son of Henry Oscar and Myra Jane (Graves) Ruffridge. He was baptized in the Plymouth Methodist Church and attended Plymouth and Bolan Methodist Church. He attended and received his education in the rural Grafton schools. He was inducted into the U.S. Army-Air Corps, serving during World War II. Lloyd worked as a custodian and dishwasher at the Oakdale Sanitarium for 16 years. He also worked for the Northwood Elevator and Randall Transit Mix in Northwood.He enjoyed flowers. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Northwood. He is survived by one sister, Ruth Millis and her husband, Clarence, of Northwood; three brothers, Myron Ruffridge, of Northwood, Harvey Ruffridge, of Northwood, and Donald Ruffridge, of Northwood; as well as nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
